There are plenty of locations all around New Zealand to meet some friendly locals over a bit of gardening.
Find the group you like best via www.naturespace.org.nz for the chance to plant a tree in memory of your visit.

Friends and Residents of Karori Stream flyer
Can highly recommend the FROKS team in Karori, Wellington~ the organiser is a wonder woman otherwise known as Megan.
Not only does she round up the plants, co-ordinate the volunteers, care for a toddler and a newborn,
she also prepares the possum baits and gets stucks into the gardening in an amazing display of multi-tasking.

Whilst breastfeeding her baby and sorting morning tea for her young son and his friend, Recycled's dog was treating himself to the rabbit Megan had prepared for the possum traps. It must have been annoying yet she kindly laughed and said it was OK.
Recycled's dog, Jack Russell
It wasn't OK and Jack the Jack Russell was red carded to the van where he perfomed an hour-long session of operatic arias.

Despite all the antics, we were invited to stay on and join the group for lunch and a cuppa. How nice was that!
FROKS are not currently doing anymore planting but they always appreciate help with predator trapping.
Check them out online or via Facebook

Alternatively, if you are a planting group in the Wellington region and would like some native pioneer species
then we can provide the plants at no cost. Each year there is a batch grown and freely donated.
